Fixed Blade Hunting Knives
from:Top of the line fixed blade hunting knives are made by hunters, for hunters. This is why when it is time to purchase your first knife or it is simply time to get a new one, buy the knife that is made in North America and not some knock off replica made overseas. There are so many choices when it comes to buying a these quality hunting tools. Where does one begin? One of the best sources of information on what to purchase are experienced hunters themselves.
What are your needs when it comes to fixed blades hunting knives? Maybe you would like a long handled blade that fits neatly in a sheath on your belt. Your choice of knife should have proper safety features. Some of the better knives have safety features such as a true finger guard, finger grooves that serve as positive blade indexing indicators, thumb serrations that allow for more cutting pressure and indentations that provide a much more sure grip.
There are several advantages of fixed blade hunting knives. The blade is longer than a folding knife thus it can be used on large game animals much more efficiently. These blades are also much sturdier than the folding style because there are no moving parts. Another advantage of them is that they are easier to clean because there are no moving parts that can collect dirt. Another benefit of not having moving parts is that the fixed blade will last longer because there are no parts that can breakdown or malfunction.
There are a few disadvantages of fixed blade hunting knives as well. In order to protect the cutting edge of the blade, a sheath is a necessary requirement. However, this may not seem like much of a disadvantage. Most knives of this style come with a sheath anyway. The only other real disadvantage is that the blades are longer than folding knives thus making them harder to carry or store safely.
